Fire Safety in Your Home

FIRE Safety in the HOME:

Vermont Department of Public Safety ~ Division of Fire Safety

The Law requires that a Certification of Compliance is executed by both seller and buyer  at the time of property closing and transfer of ownership. The certification basically states the following:

The Sellers must certify under oath that the dwelling being sold is provided with properly operating Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors/Alarms installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and as required in state law.

The Buyer must receive a copy of the certification and agree to notify the seller by certified mail within ten days of the date of conveyance of the property that the dwelling lacks Smoke or Carbon Monoxide Detector/Alarms or that the Detectors/Alarms are not operable.

Therefore, if you currently have your property on the market or plan to put your property on the market, please review the law with regard to the required detectors and technical assistance or contact the Division of Fire Safety directly at www.firesafety.vermont.gov

Vermont Department of Public Safety provides a user friendly site that is full of fire safety tips, guidelines, code requirements with code specific information.

The law is specific to the type of property you have, single family resident, multi-family, public building or commercial just to name a few.
